Electric Circuit

Concept Explanation

Electric Circuit

The unbroken path through which an electric current can flow is called an electric circuit. The negative terminal of the cell is connected directly to the other end of the bulb holder with a wire, so this kind of setup is called as electric circuit. The important points to remember while drawing circuit diagram are:

  •  There should be a source, that is, one or more electric cells.
  •  The wires should not have only discontinuity (gaps).
  •  The only component that can have a discontinuity is the switch. When it is ‘open’, there is a discontinuity and current does not flow in the circuit.
  •

    Circuit Diagram:

An electric circuit is a path through which electric current flow. The simplest circuit we come across is the circuit consisting of a battery and a bulb in a torch. When the torch is switched on electric current flows through the bulb which lights it up.Drawing diagrams of the actual components in a circuit is a very time consuming and skilful task. It is much easier to use symbol of  each of the components. Diagrams drawn in this way are called circuit diagrams.
